SAN FRANCISCO by NIGHT

The Rebirth Chronicle

In 1991, Chicago by Night wasn't the only City by Night that was being developed. The San Francisco Chronicle (Laced in Darkness)  also started. It has run, in one form or another, for 33+ years. The latest iteration is REBIRTH, and follows the adventures of kindred 25 years after the Great Purge of 1998.

The Rebirth Chronicle is available now. It includes a live story blog, NPCs, locations and more. It's detailed and we hope you can steal ideas for your Chronicle. THIS SITE IS UPDATED TWICE A MONTH to keep up in "real time" what is happening in our chronicle.

VTM enthusiasts love source books and other info. Consider this our gift to a game that we all love.  In the mean time, send SchreckNet an email....we love to help and have been doing this for a very, very long time.

A 30+ YEAR VAMPIRE CHRONICLE

A Message from the Author...

What the hell is all this?

Well my friends, you have found a story that I have been writing for the last 30+ years.  In fact, it all started in 1991 and the following pages are a detailed account of a role playing game (RPG) called Vampire: The Masquerade (VTM for short). The initial campaign (Laced in Darkness) ran for over a decade (1991- 2003) and was based in the city of San Francisco. There were several players that came and went but the core members were:  Eli, Callan, Jeff, Misti, Stacey, Joe and Dan.

I continued to play and write in my spare time. From 2004-2021, there were other cities and creations but then in 2022, the stars aligned and I was able to resurrect the San Fransisco chronicle once again. Together with my good friends/players Alex and Jason and also reconnecting with Eli once again, I was able to reintroduce them to my original Vampiric World of Darkness (San Fransisco). With over 20 years of writing and scheming, I reset the campaign 25 years after the "concluding story" of Laced in Darkness.

On a cold winter day in 2022, I took up the mantle once again as storyteller  and introduced Alex, Jason and Eli to Rebirth: A Chaos Chronicle. Still set in San Francisco  but many years after the Purge of 1998. A new Prince. New Enemies. And even more vampiric politics.

Why Table Top Role Playing (TTRPG) is Important?

I've been rolling dice for over 40 years now and I can't imagine not doing it. While there are many different forms of RPGs now, I personally love the in person (TTRPG) games the best. It allows you to get together with friends and really get a feel for the game that I think video games or Discord misses. That's not to say they don't have value, they do, I am just expressing my preference. I like seeing the players eyes, feeling the emotion, hearing the music and setting the ambience in my game room. I am lucky enough to be able to do it.

RPGs have allowed me to explore my creativity and also trouble shoot through critical thinking. I have literally used RPG experiences to help me solve problems in the real world. RPGs are also great escapes from "reality" which I think is healthy once in a while. Either you know what I am talking about or you simply think it's "weird". To me, it's one of my favourite things to do.

What follows is a living document of my World of Darkness. I will continue to add more information as time goes by but in the meantime, you can read where this chronicle is going and enjoy some of the troubles these guys get into.

Vampire the Masquerade is, as you know, more than a game. It is a dark reminder of the world we live in and in some cases, we embrace that darkness.

Stay Dark....

THE PLAYERS: WHO'S WHO

Eli playing Maxwell Knight, an 8th generation Brujah who owns Knight Security, one of the largest and most successful personal protection companies in San Francisco. Max is confident, intelligent and quick to anger. Prior to owning his company, he was an Army Ranger, serving 4 tours in the Middle East. He is a passionate and sophisticated Brujah that is very powerful. However, his life is wedged between his vengeance from his past and the Dark Fate that awaits him in the future.

Jason: playing Valmount Ventillion, a 8th generation Toreador (has committed diabolrie twice) who once owned one of the most well known wine companies on the West Coast. Vallmont is obsessive with many eccentricities. He struggles with memory loss and hears the dead from time to time.  Probably the foremost expert in wine making on the planet, Valmont is calculating and wise beyond his years. Oddly enough, he is more Malkavian than Toreador. And he has a particularly deadly skill with a pistol.

Alex: playing Damien Bolden, an 8th generation Nosferatu who once served under an abusive and evil Sabbat sire. Now free, Damien uses his vast wealth and knowledge to confront the Sabbat (or Camarilla) when he can. He is a technophile who is fiercely independent and cunning.

(Former PC: in Torpor) Alex (former character) playing Ban Strahd , an 8th generation Tremere who was a doctor of hematology before the Embrace. Now, an extremely adept magic user. Ban  is equally skilled in the art of kenjitsu. He is a master manipulator with a rebel nature. Not wanting to serve but ultimately rule, he is one deadly vampire that always is seeking arcane knowledge.
